Gingerbread man story
Once upon a time, there was an old woman who lived in a small cottage. She was very lonely, so she decided to bake a gingerbread man. She made him out of the finest ingredients, and when he was finished, he was the most delicious-looking gingerbread man you ever saw.
The old woman put the gingerbread man in the oven to bake. As he baked, he started to sing:
“I’m a gingerbread man,
I’m so tasty and sweet.
I’m baking in the oven,
I’m coming soon to eat.”
When the gingerbread man was finished baking, he jumped out of the oven and ran away. The old woman chased after him, but he was too fast. He ran down the road, singing:
“Run, run, as fast as you can!
You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man!”
The gingerbread man ran and ran until he came to a cow.
“Cow, cow, can you catch me?” he asked.
“No, I can’t,” said the cow. “You’re too fast.”
The gingerbread man ran on. He ran past a horse, a goat, and a pig. None of them could catch him.
Finally, the gingerbread man came to a river. He looked across the river and saw a fox.
“Fox, fox, can you help me across the river?” he asked.
“Of course I can,” said the fox. “Hop on my back.”
The gingerbread man hopped on the fox’s back, and the fox swam across the river. When they reached the other side, the gingerbread man said, “Thank you, fox. You’re a very kind friend.”
“You’re welcome,” said the fox. “Now, why don’t you rest for a bit? You must be tired from all that running.”
The gingerbread man sat down on a rock to rest. The fox watched him for a moment, and then he pounced. The gingerbread man was gone in a flash.
The old woman was very sad when she saw what had happened. She had lost her gingerbread man, and she was all alone again.
